Yucky sloppy slop

I live near the coast, so instead of the 8"-to-10" of snow my neighbors to the west have the pleasure of cleaning up this fine evening, I had the unusual experience of shoveling and salting the sidewalks around the house, part of the driveway, and the stairs...IN THE DRIVING RAIN.

It soaked my coat and hat all the way through. My boots are nice and drenched for tomorrow morning's commute.

I can't recall a time when I have ever shoveled in the rain. It felt like 6" of snow, but was packed down to about 3" of yucky-dirty-heavy-brown-sloppy slop-slop waterlogged snow. Add to that the great joy of discovering that one of my neighbors hadn't scooped up after the dog. Nothing like throwing a nice heavy load with a nice load in it.

Even though it's pouring down rain outside, it's about to deep freeze, so instead of spending 4 hours out there chopping at the ice like I did on Christmas Eve, I decided I'd rather sleep tomorrow morning.

I hate this winter.

I sense that the feeling of sand between my toes, warm sun on my face, and a tropical breeze in my hair will become a necessity in the coming weeks.

Other gems of joy today: the basement has a bunch of water in it, and the dishwasher died for the second time this month. First time was a fuse within the brand-new machine, so I suspect the same issue.

I hate Sears now too.

Other than that, I'm good.

Happy freakin' winter, everyone! Anyone else feeling the same?

Luckily, I've only been stuck with two storms this year. He's gotten most of the other ones! :-)

You were smart to do that. The ice down here is out of control because the snow falls, then it warms up and melts a bit, then it refreezes into a lovely sheet of ice - EVERYWHERE.

Seriously, the kids could not go out on the playground last Friday due to ice!?! And you can't get a bag of rock salt anywhere in NJ right now.

I'm SO over it!!

Finally, almost two weeks since we got back I finally have time to write about this! Telecommuting, and vacation plans

Telecommuting is awesome. The biggest upside to our company being bought 2 1/2 yrs ago is the ability to work from home. I don't abuse it and always get a lot more work done (no interruptions) and it's great for big projects. So, with yesterday's 9 incher, that's what I did. Randy works in downtown Boston and they said, hey, if you're not essential, don't come in. He didn't have brain surgery scheduled and neither did I (he's a regional VP and I'm a sales analyst), so we stayed home and did what we needed to get done. I always feel a little guilty or "weather-wimpy" in storms, but then I think, most employees at my corporation are women, most of them are moms, and most of them stayed home because it was a snow day. Never a dull moment!

My mom was planning to make a life-long dream come true tomorrow. She's been planning this trip to Egypt on a jealousy-inducing 18-day tour for months now. Starting out in Cairo, and heading down the Nile on a cruise boat for several days. The trip features camel rides (can NOT imagine her on a camel...she can't even deal with cat hair), falukah rides (whatever that is), flights to Abu Simbal, Pyramids, Luxor, temples, Valley of the Kings, all sorts of Moses stuff, ancient tombs, King Tut's mummy now that it's open for public viewing for the first time in history, museums, bazaars, handsome Egyptian men and smelly ones too, sand, lots of sand, more sand, sand, sand, and all sorts of other cool stuff.
