I awoke to this at 3:30 am after the Red Sox game

Totally freaky to wake up at 3:30am, three hours after getting back from the Sox game, to discover this happening on my street. Big fire trucks, flashing lights everywhere. I had to go outside to find out what was going on or I never would've gotten back to sleep. Fortunately the first thing I found out was that everyone was OK! And it is good to know the hydrant across the street is actually functional. I'm never gonna park too close to the corner again.

No one was hurt during a small house fire on L------ Street April 18, 2009. Residents vacated the building as firefighters responded.

Shortly before 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning, Somerville firefighters responded to a working fire at 19 L------ Street.

The fire was contained to a roof deck and the roof area on top of the house but was not visible from the street, according to reports

After the fire was extinguished, there was water and smoke damage to the third floor.

Weekend in New York...my early birthday present from Randy (REALLY early, but what's time got to do with it when it's this great?!) We haven't been there together since the night Saddam Hussein was captured, so we were WELL overdue. I'm a huge Allman Brothers fan...love the music, love what it represents to me - great fun in the summertime and great times with my friends in bands past. The Holy Grail of Allman Brothers concerts is their annual run at the Beacon Theater in New York City. This year marks the 40th anniversary of this band. Telecommuting, and vacation plans

Telecommuting is awesome. The biggest upside to our company being bought 2 1/2 yrs ago is the ability to work from home. I don't abuse it and always get a lot more work done (no interruptions) and it's great for big projects. So, with yesterday's 9 incher, that's what I did. Randy works in downtown Boston and they said, hey, if you're not essential, don't come in. He didn't have brain surgery scheduled and neither did I (he's a regional VP and I'm a sales analyst), so we stayed home and did what we needed to get done. I always feel a little guilty or "weather-wimpy" in storms, but then I think, most employees at my corporation are women, most of them are moms, and most of them stayed home because it was a snow day. Why should I make myself a road hazard, driving like I'm 80, stressing out for over an hour both ways (usually 35 minutes) after spending forever digging the car out from my street space because of the plows, and bein...

More free Red Sox!

So, Randy got us some free tix in a great section! I sure hope they win tonight, they've been on the usual July slide. Go Red Sox! Go Josh Beckett! Get those White Sox! Off to the beach tomorrow with my sidekick Karen. Supposed to be about 76 with sun and some clouds. Should be nice enough, and we haven't had nearly enough beach time this year. Just made plans to go to Nashville over Labor Day weekend with Karen and Kim. SO excited about a girly weekend away with my two best friends. Got tix for the Grand Ole Opry already (that's GOTTA be one of the places you should see before you die, right?) We're staying right downtown near where all the cool music bars are too. Can't wait to wear my stylin' cowboy boots I got in Austin last year, without socks and with a denim skirt. Can't rock that look in Boston, although it's ok with jeans around here. Hm, what else.
