July vacation! (or, yet another reason I have a good life!)

Just got back from an awesome week with our friends in Plum Island. On the 4th, bright and early, Kim and Jim came in from California, and Karen came in from Albany, NY, to begin the weekend watching the fireworks in Boston. As always the effort and colossal pain in the butt getting there and back was totally worth it.
Saturday morning, we got ready to go to our beach house that we rented on Plum Island, which is off the coast of Newburyport, MA. It felt like we were far far away from home. We had the best time and it was SO great to be with my best friends for a week, with lots of others coming up to visit. Here's a link to our photos, and below are my favorites.

Our view. We were on the "basin" side of the island, not the ocean side. This area completely drained during low tide so we could walk to the ocean side during low tide. The city of Newburyport itself is off in the distance

I need to play 'apples to apples'. On our vacation the girls (and their 2 teenage friends) played it a lot.

Other than asking me what was 'better', I didn't get to see what they were doing. Seeing adults playing means I should give it a try. Any chance of making a drinking game out of it?

Being a "flatlander" I hadn't heard of Plum Island, but it looks plum nice!

Telecommuting, and vacation plans

Telecommuting is awesome. The biggest upside to our company being bought 2 1/2 yrs ago is the ability to work from home. I don't abuse it and always get a lot more work done (no interruptions) and it's great for big projects. So, with yesterday's 9 incher, that's what I did. Randy works in downtown Boston and they said, hey, if you're not essential, don't come in. He didn't have brain surgery scheduled and neither did I (he's a regional VP and I'm a sales analyst), so we stayed home and did what we needed to get done. I always feel a little guilty or "weather-wimpy" in storms, but then I think, most employees at my corporation are women, most of them are moms, and most of them stayed home because it was a snow day. Yucky sloppy slop

I live near the coast, so instead of the 8"-to-10" of snow my neighbors to the west have the pleasure of cleaning up this fine evening, I had the unusual experience of shoveling and salting the sidewalks around the house, part of the driveway, and the stairs... IN THE DRIVING RAIN . It soaked my coat and hat all the way through. My boots are nice and drenched for tomorrow morning's commute. I can't recall a time when I have ever shoveled in the rain. It felt like 6" of snow, but was packed down to about 3" of yucky-dirty-heavy-brown-sloppy slop-slop waterlogged snow. Add to that the great joy of discovering that one of my neighbors hadn't scooped up after the dog. Nothing like throwing a nice heavy load with a nice load in it. Even though it's pouring down rain outside, it's about to deep freeze, so instead of spending 4 hours out there chopping at the ice like I did on Christmas Eve, I decided I'd rather sleep tomorrow morning. NYC Trip

Weekend in New York...my early birthday present from Randy (REALLY early, but what's time got to do with it when it's this great?!) We haven't been there together since the night Saddam Hussein was captured, so we were WELL overdue. I'm a huge Allman Brothers fan...love the music, love what it represents to me - great fun in the summertime and great times with my friends in bands past. The Holy Grail of Allman Brothers concerts is their annual run at the Beacon Theater in New York City. This year marks the 40th anniversary of this band. Yeah you might think Gregg Allman Marries Cher from the 70's and all that stuff, but these guys play freestyle, always mixing up the tunes and bringing in guests and just awesome on the stage. Anyway, Randy scored tickets (at face value no less), got us tickets for the Acela train, and a free stay at the Waldorf Astoria thanks to all his Hilton points. Pictures anyone?
